Nurhayati Samad

PRESIDENT

Hi, I’m Nurhayati, and I am the President for BES in 2024! My role is to oversee the club and the exciting and informative events we have running for the year. My aim for the club is to ensure it provides a welcoming and safe environment for all things related to biomedical engineering, especially within the WA community, bringing together students and industry alike. I would also like to nurture the minds of our community with the development workshops we will hold to help allow students to be work-ready. I endeavour for BES to grow as a club as much as possible this upcoming year.

I am currently in my 3rd year of my Bachelor Honours degree in 2024 at UWA, studying a Bachelors of Biomedical Engineering (Honours). I currently have a volunteering internship at Perth Children’s Hospital where I am gaining hands-on experience in the hospital space, which I am super grateful for. In my free time, I love to travel, spend time with my family and bake.

Karen Goh

TREASURER

Hi everyone! I'm Karen and I am the Treasurer for BES in 2024. My role is to manage the clubs finances and ensure that they are stable throughout the year. This typically involves approving club budgets, organising sponsorships and applying for grants.
I've completed an undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science, majoring in engineering and neuroscience. Currently, I'm in my final year of Masters, looking forward to graduating as a qualified biomedical engineer. Throughout my Masters journey, I've had the privilege of gaining industry insights and valuable skills through my internship at Inova Medical. In my spare time, love travelling, playing volleyball and trying out new recipes.

Georgia Gould

VICE PRESIDENT OF INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT

Hi, I'm Georgia and I am the Industry Vice-President for 2024. My role is to facilitate connections between biomedical engineering students, industry and research. Some of the exciting events planned for this year include meet the grads, networking with researchers and our flagship event innovation in medicine. I am particularly interested in all things innovation and research and would like to incorporate this into my role as industry VP this year.

My undergraduate was in Mechanical Engineering, and last year I completed my Honours with T3mPLATE using computational fluid dynamics to analyse blood flow through heart valves. I am now excited to be going into the Master's of Biomedical Engineering. I have previously worked at VeinTech, which was a great opportunity to learn how research and design come together to develop a product. Outside of uni and work, I enjoy being outdoors - whether that is heading to the beach, playing social sport or camping.
